Spicy Garlic Chili Shrimp Recipe
Servings: 2-4 | Prep Time: 10 minutes | Cook Time: 5 minutes
Ingredients:
- 1 lb (450g) large shrimp or prawns, peeled and deveined
- 4 cloves garlic, finely minced
- 1-2 red chilies, finely chopped (adjust for heat level)
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
- 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional, for extra heat)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Fresh lemon wedges, for serving
- Fresh cilantro or parsley, for garnish
Instructions:
-
Prepare the Shrimp: Pat the shrimp dry with a paper towel to remove any moisture. Season with salt, pepper, smoked paprika, and cayenne pepper (if using), and mix until the shrimp are evenly coated.
-
Heat the Pan: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add the olive oil and butter. Let the butter melt and start to bubble slightly.
-
Cook the Garlic and Chili: Add the minced garlic and chopped red chilies to the pan. Sauté for 1 minute until the garlic is fragrant and lightly golden (don’t let it burn).
-
Cook the Shrimp: Add the seasoned shrimp to the skillet in a single layer. Let them cook undisturbed for about 1-2 minutes, until they start turning pink and get a nice sear.
-
Flip and Finish: Flip the shrimp and cook for another 1-2 minutes, until they’re opaque and cooked through. Shrimp cook quickly, so avoid overcooking to keep them juicy.
-
Serve: Transfer the shrimp to a serving plate, squeeze fresh lemon juice over the top, and garnish with chopped cilantro or parsley.
-
Enjoy! Serve hot with extra lemon wedges on the side. Pair with crusty bread, over rice, or on a salad for a complete meal.
Tip: For a smoky island twist, try cooking these over a grill or in a cast-iron skillet. The charred bits will add an extra layer of flavor!
